Many people contribute in a variety of ways to help us achieve our objective of conserving Australia's bird life. Little would be achieved without the generous financial contribution of 15,000 Members and Supporters.

We have a core team of Staff headed by the Chief Executive Officer. Many of our project officers are young scientists who are making a valuable contribution to the organisation at the same time as gaining experience as fledgling research scientists.

Many people volunteer their time, skills, knowledge and energy to help Birds Australia and pursue their passion for birds. They volunteer in a wide range of roles such as Councillors, Committee Members, Field Atlassers, Librarians and Office Assistants.

Birds Australia is governed by a voluntary Council who are appointed by the Members for a period of up to six years. Councillors are Directors of the RAOU which is a public company limited by guarantee.

Birds Australia makes a number of Awards for significant contributions to ornithology or to the organisation. Life Membership is awarded to people who have been a Member for 50 years.
