The Eastern Whipbird lives in dense understorey. Its territorial call is antiphonal (presented here in stereo), the male uttering the tone and the whip-crack, and the female the choo-choo in reply .

Calling of the Superb Lyrebird, thought by many to be our most accomplished vocalist, peaks in early winter. It is a wonderful mimic and its territorial call varies greatly with geographical region. Here are samples of its mimicry (Grey Shrike-thrush, Crimson Rosella, Australian Magpie, some of its own calls, and Grey Butcherbird) and of its territorial call from near Canberra, ACT.
