Neophema chrysogaster
The Orange-bellied Parrot is one of the rarest and most threatened birds in Australia. It is restricted to a small part of western Tasmania, in which it breeds in summer, and an almost equally small area of the coastline of Victoria and South Australia, to which it migrates in autumn/winter.
It is similar to many of the 'Neophema' parrots, with blue outer wing feathers and yellow belly. However, Orange-bellied Parrots are bright grass green on the upper surface and breast, with a strong orange patch on the middle of the yellow belly. They feed on seeds of grasses and marsh plants. They nest in tree hollows, mainly in gum trees, and lay up to six eggs.
