Tadorna radjah
The Radjah Shelduck is a big white duck with a brown back and wing tips and a rusty band across its breast. It has pink legs, pink feet, pink beak, even pink eyes! It lives in shallow water in tropical Australia.
It lays lots of eggs, sometimes as many as fifteen, in a hollow in a tree. The ducklings leave the nest soon after they hatch. They flutter and tumble to the ground even though they are still covered in down, then run to the safety of the water. Radjah Shelducks use their beak to filter tiny bugs and seed from mud and water.
