Newhaven Fire Management Plan |
Compilation of a Fire Management Strategy for Newhaven Reserve was commissioned by Birds Australia in 2005, after a series of extensive fires had occurred on the Reserve from 2001-2004. A small grant ($9000) was obtained from the Northern Territory Government Environment Grants for Birds Australia to employ consultants to prepare the fire management strategy. In 2006 the Australian Wildlife Conservancy became the leading partner in the co-management of Newhaven Reserve with Birds Australia. The Newhaven Fire Management Strategy sets out the vision, approach and rationale for the management of fire for species conservation, people and asset protection and wildfire control at Newhaven Reserve for a five year period from June 2006. Its primary focus is on species and habitat conservation, with a key objective of the fire management strategy being to maintain or enhance species and habitat diversity on the Reserve and increase populations of rare and threatened species.
