Volunteering with TBN

How can you register?

tbn_plainswandererAnyone who wants to help Australia's threatened birds is welcome to register with TBN. Our volunteers come in all shapes and sizes, are of all ages and backgrounds, and have varying degrees of experience. The majority of TBN volunteers live in Australia, but a number of people travelling from overseas also become involved. You do not have to be a member of Birds Australia to register with TBN, as we aim to help those who can help threatened birds.

When you register with TBN, you receive a 'new volunteer' pack, which contains:

  • An introductory letter welcoming you to the network, and outlining the ways in which you can help our threatened Birds Australia
  • A copy of the TBN newsletter Volunteer which describes volunteer opportunities and experiences
  • A copy of the current State of Australia's Birds report
  • A Birds In Backyards bookmark, with details of this fantastic Birds Australia project
  • A copy of Birds Australia's annual report
  • Our help in linking your interests with appropriate volunteer activities on threatened birds

If you provide an email address when you register with the network you will also receive immediate updates on volunteering as they materialise.

For projects which would like to join the network, registration means we can help develop a volunteer base to carry out tasks such as surveying, habitat works, and community awareness programs. Project officers are encouraged to contact us for more details on how we can help you.

To register with TBN all you need to do is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it at the Birds Australia National Office, 03 9347 0757. What we require is your postal address, email address (for future newsletter distribution and email alerts) and a contact phone number if possible. If you want to participate in a specific activity or have certain interests, please don't forget to let us know and we'll try to tailor enquiries accordingly.
