Report 1. Barrett, Geoff. (1997). Site Assessment Criteria for Land Acquisition by Birds Australia. Pp. 28. Download the pdf (1.6mb)
• Provides guidance for assessment of sites for their conservation value (with respect to birds present, quality of the habitat, landscape context and management of the site), for the purpose of potential acquisition and subsequent sympathetic management by Birds Australia. Included is a list of 21 criteria and case studies of three potential sites in south-eastern Australia.
Report 2. Ambrose, Stephen. (1997). Australian Bird Research Directory - 1996. Pp. 56.
• A complete guide to 223 research and conservation projects being conducted on birds in 1996, listed in state order, with a brief description of each project, and details of the project officer, their institution and contact details.
Report 3. Starks, Jonathan. (1997). Winter Surveys of the Orange-bellied Parrot Neophema chysogaster in South-eastern Australia in 1995. Pp. 12.
• Summary of monthly winter/spring surveys in south-eastern Australia during 1995: 31 OBPs at three of the six main sites surveyed in May; 43 at two sites in June; 41 at two sites in July; 51 at three sites in August; and 32 at two sites in September. Also records of colour-banded birds, as well as sightings of Blue-winged Parrots.
Report 4. Ambrose, Stephen. (1998). Australian Bird Research Directory - 1997. Pp. 76.
• A complete guide to 339 research and conservation projects being conducted on birds in 1997, listed in state order, with a brief description of each project, and details of the project officer, their institution and contact details.
Report 5. Crowley, Gabriel, Garnett, Stephen, & Pedler, Lynn. (1999). Assessment of the Role of Captive Breeding and Translocation in the Recovery of the South Australian Subspecies of the Glossy Black-Cockatoo Calyptorhynchus lathami halmaturinus. Pp. 107.
• Investigation into the feasibility and management implications of captive breeding and subsequent translocation of the South Australian subspecies of the Glossy Black-Cockatoo, which is currently confined to Kangaroo Island. Also discussed are threats to the population, the possibility of the population of Black Cockatoos on Kangaroo Island recovering without captive breeding and translocation, and an eventual recolonization of adjacent areas of the mainland. It is concluded that while captive breeding and translocation is feasible, it is expensive and should be given a lower priority than management of the existing population, and protection and enhancement of its habitat.
Report 6. Steele, Will. (1999). The Relative Abundance, Distribution and Seasonal Movements of Australian Falconiformes, 1986-90. Pp. 107.
• Summarizes results of roadside surveys of 24 species of diurnal raptors throughout Australia between 1986 and 1990, discussing distribution, relative abundance and trends of seasonal movements in different regions, as well as an investigation into the effects of rainfall on raptors in different climatic zones.
Report 7. Starks, Jonathan. (1999). Winter surveys of the Orange-bellied Parrot Neophema chysogaster in south-eastern Australia in 1996. Pp. 12.
• Summary of three surveys in south-eastern Australia during 1996: 43 OBPs at four of 11 sites surveyed in May; 40 OBPs at five of 64 sites in July; and 17 at four of eight sites in September. Also details of searches in farmland habitat and records of colour-banded birds, as well as sightings of Blue-winged Parrots and Elegant Parrots.
Report 8. Mitchell, Peter, & Moss, Barbara. (2000). Rotamah Island Bird Observatory Report 9. June 1996 to July 1999. Pp. 70.

Included is an annotated list of 224 species of birds, as well as annotated lists of orchids, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates recorded between 1996 and 1999.

• Identifies major priorities for the management of Gluepot Reserve in South Australia, including: (i) to implement an effective fire management plan; (ii) to obtain ongoing funding for the running of the Reserve; and (iii) to ensure that monitoring data of various aspects of the ecology of the Reserve are collected routinely and analysed.
