When most birdwatchers venture into the great outdoors they usually take their binoculars with them, but a growing band of birders take a camera instead. The result is a mountain of photos of birds and other related subjects. What happens to all of these photographs? Lots of them end up in the Birds Australia Image Library.
Birds Australia's Image Library contains thousands of images. There are slides of nearly 500 species of birds, from albatrosses to Zebra Finches, as well as a wide variety of habitats, a few nests and eggs, and there are even photos of some of the birders themselves. The images have been captured by some of Australia's foremost nature and wildlife photographers, such as Dave Watts, Graeme Chapman, Michael Snedic, Mike Carter, Michael Seyfort and Rob Drummond.

The Image Library was set up specifically to assist members of Birds Australia by lending them slides (free of charge) so that they can illustrate any talks or presentations that they may be giving. Local bird clubs, field naturalists' societies and other like-minded groups are always on the lookout for people to give talks at their meetings, and it is often members of Birds Australia who agree to present them. A talk that is illustrated by slides will always be more interesting and entertaining than one where the speaker drones on without any visual assistance. By using slides from the Birds Australia Image Library to illustrate their talks, speakers will get their message across more easily, and make their talk more enjoyable for everyone.

To arrange a loan of one or more images to illustrate their talk, members of Birds Australia should send an email to David McCarthy, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , the stalwart volunteer who runs our image library.

Unfortunately, as Birds Australia does not own the copyright to these images, we are unable to allow their reproduction. We can, however, put you in contact with each photographer to get their permission, and they may charge a fee.
