By becoming involved in Birds Australia you are not merely joining a group of enthusiastic, like minded people, you are making a positive contribution to conservation. You can't fix the environment if you don't know what is wrong with it. Birds are key indicator species of the health of an ecosystem- when birds are not doing well, the entire system is likely to be under stress. And to be frank, many of Australia's unique birds are in serious trouble with more than 200 species in decline around the country. This we know, in large part due to the work of Birds Australia, such as the ongoing Atlas of Australian Birds. And through other programs like the Threatened Bird Network, BA is actively working to save not only particular species but the habitat on which they depend. But these and many other conservation and research projects would not be possible without the people who support Birds Australia, be it those who become members, donate funds or volunteer to be involved. Australia's birds need your support.
