Guidelines and Call for Applications 2008
BA-Victoria
invites postgraduate students enrolled for a PhD degree at Victorian
Universities and Colleges to apply for one-year Research Grants of $500 - $1500. These will be awarded to support suitable field-based ornithological research. Each grant may be renewed provided that a
satisfactory progress report is received, a further application is made
and the financial position of BA-Vic is able to support this
expenditure. Applications must
be approved by the student’s supervisor(s) and submitted by them
through the Institute’s Office for Research and/or Graduate Studies.
A letter from the student's Institution must accompany one hard-copy of each
application stating that the Institution is willing to accept the grant
and that it will be exempt from all administrative and other charges. Grants are made on the strict understanding that funds will be exempt from University and College administration charges.
The grants for 2008 will be restricted to the following areas of avian research:
• The responses of birds to extreme habitat changes and/or restoration efforts
• The avifauna of inland waterways, swamps and lagoons
• The study of shorebirds/waders and seabirds that utilise the shores and oceans to the 3-mile limit off the Victorian coastline
Studies
designed to gain an understanding of the behaviour, conservation
biology, and ecology of such birds and the management of their habitats
are encouraged. Fieldwork is to be carried out in Victoria.
Applications must be received by Friday 29th August 2008. Completed application forms to be submitted as a Word document to
